Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (Amex: SWB), parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp., the
legendary 153-year old company in the global business of safety, security,
protection and sport, announced today the release of a limited 75th
Anniversary edition of the Walther PPK.
After 75 years, the pistol that helped make James Bond famous will be
recognized with a special commemorative model. Manufactured of carbon steel
with a polished blue finish, the Anniversary Model has wood grips as well as
full scroll, machine engraving on both sides of the frame and slide. A 24kt
gold plated Walther logo and model name along with an engraved "75th
Anniversary" will be featured on the left side of the frame. Each Anniversary
PPK will bear a special serial number, starting with 0000PPK and will be
shipped with a glass-top wooden display case.
The classic Walther PPK, chambered in .380 ACP ammunition, has a
traditional double-action trigger pull, measures 6.1 inches in total length
with a 3.3-inch barrel, and weighs 20.8 ounces. The slide features a fixed
red dot front sight and a drift windage adjustable dovetail red line rear
sight. The pistol is manufactured with a durable and corrosion-resistant
stainless barrel, carbon steel frame and slide, and has a capacity of six
rounds plus one round in the chamber.
Smith & Wesson, under a licensing agreement from Carl Walther GmBH,
manufactures a similar version of the venerable Walther firearm: the PPK/S.
The Anniversary Model is smaller in size and almost 3 ounces lighter than the
PPK/S. The same ergonomic enhancements found on the PPK/S have been retained
for the Anniversary Model. The PPK features an extended beaver tail and an
edge break package on the frame designed to provide a streamlined look and
feel.
